The XFL league was set to be auctioned off as part of bankruptcy proceedings this week but never made it there. In partnership with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and RedBird, Dany Garcia becomes the FIRST Woman to ever OWN an ENTIRE Sports League. This is an opportunity that Garcia and Johnson have been working towards their whole life. As a huge football fan and professional body builder, sports are a part of who she is, so when Garcia saw the opportunity to acquire the XFL, it was a no brainer.
Garcia is not new to the business space. She currently owns her own investment firm, The Garcia Companies. She is also involved in a variety of businesses, including the Garcia and Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions, the Mediterranean Restaurant Chain Cava and now the XFL.
For Garcia, this dream did not happen overnight. She has had a goal of sports ownership for the last couple of years. In addition to achieving this goal, Garcia is ready to create new opportunities for others through the XFL. In an interview with Sports Illustrated Garcia speaks passionately about the potential of the XFL for athletes, storytellers, the brand and overall, for football in a way that hasn’t been represented before with real depth and connection.
