Way back when, GladiatHers® used to provide interesting features about the dynamic women who are married to the professional athletes and coaches that we often find ourselves cheering for. We found that these women were often themselves former athletes; were successfully balancing family and their own careers; and often had profound messages that were informative and inspiring. Sounds like it’s time that we bring that back, huh? Welcome to the relaunch of GladiatHers® Wives! We hope that you find the women we feature thought-provoking and that they inspire you to walk in your own greatness.
Meet our latest GladiatHers® Wife. She a wife, mother of three and yet somehow also finds time to run own her own business, volunteer in the community and be driven to change perceptions.
Thanks for joining us, Faith. Tell our readers who you are and a little bit about you.
My Name is Faith Marie Brockers. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas to a teacher and a reverend, Marie and Herman Youngblood. My family was very spiritual and gave my brothers and I bible based names; Faith, Isaiah and Jeremiah. I went to Hightower High school before getting accepted to Xavier university where I studied Mass Communications. For seven amazing years I have been married to Michael Brockers. He is a Defensive End for the LA Rams. We have three children: MaKaela Marie, 3; Makhi Logan, 2 and Makael Calvin 2 months old.
Congratulations on the newborn! Our site is geared a women who work in the sports industry so we always like to ask our GladiatHers® Wives if they played sports. Did you?
I wouldn’t classify myself as a athlete currently; however, I did study dance from the age of 2 until I was 14 years old. My genres were ballet and jazz. I also studied tap for a couple years but didn’t enjoy it as much. My husband will tell you that he doesn’t see dance being a sport.. but it is! I really appreciated my time as a dance because it taught me discipline and responsibility.
That’s why I think it’s so important for girls to become involved in sports. Sports give woman and girls a sense of strength to know that they are powerful and they can achieve the goals they need to in that sport.
We couldn’t agree more! And please tell Mr. Brockers that Misty Copeland is an athlete for sure! With such a young family I’m sure that you’re plenty busy. Do you have time to for things outside family life?
Raising a family definitely takes a great deal of time but I do make time for other things. I own my own business called Senior Helpers. It is a franchise with hundreds of offices across the US. We care for senior citizens in the comfort of their homes sending caregivers out to them to assist in bathing feeding house keeping and even taking the seniors out to do daily errands.
I have also started to get more involved in my community. I go to schools to help children find their purpose and goal in life and help provide Thanksgiving meals for the homeless in our surrounding areas.
Sheesh! That’s a lot. It’s amazing that you’re able to balance it all. Your work with the elderly and in the community suggests that you hope to inspire those around you. Is that the case and how so?
I do want to inspire others. I am passionate about opening up the standards of beauty, especially in the WAG world, and building confidence in young girls. So in the future I hope to be an inspiration to women, especially young dark skin girls. I remember growing up as a young dark skin girl not seeing the beauty in my own skin because other people told me I wasn’t beautiful and wanting someone to inspire me with the same story as me. My quest to inspire others to embrace their beauty actually starts at home. I try to start by always being positive with my daughter. I can inspire all the girls in the world but if I don’t make sure MaKaela is confident and feels beautiful and strong, I’ve failed.
That’s amazing. It’s unfortunate that in today’s society we still have to work to expand the standards of beauty, but we can’t wait to see what you do to continue the movement! Anything else on the horizon for your career?
I plan to own a beauty bar with the ideals of expanding beauty in mind. My beauty bar will not only reflect all beautiful tones in ads and on the walls but also in the artists who work with me. I will make sure that everyone who walks through my doors, will be able to see an artist who looks like them.
What’s it like for you being a part of the GladiatHers® Wives Community?
The wonderful thing about the WAG community is that our men come in all shapes and sizes and so do their wives! I love seeing how creative my fellow WAGs are when it comes to game-day attire. When someone finds a great person who can customize jackets or create kids things, we try to share it so we all look great supporting our men. Unfortunately, we also have to deal with stereotypes of being unambitious women. I want to break the stereotype that “WAGs” do not have jobs or own businesses and have to stay in our spouses’ shadow. We are really a dynamic group of women!
How can people keep up with you on your journey as a wife, mother, entrepreneur and change agent?
